Summit Fellowship Club
September 28, 1981
Dear Member,
Welcome to the Fellowship Club. This is a letter to bring our members up to date on the happenings in your club. First of all, the club was formed by fifteen members of Alcoholics Anonymous. These fifteen people saw a need for a proper club in Greensboro for some time. The purpose of the club is to: (1) Furnish a proper and comfortable meeting place for sober alcoholics. To promote fellowship and meet new friends. (2) To help alcoholics who still suffer. (3) To work with agencies in the field of alcoholism.
Our charter members are made up of fifteen people who have worked hard and long hours at what they believe in. And that is the still suffering alcoholic, as well as the love for the recovering alcoholic. From the very beginning, some two weeks ago, as new members started coming in, almost every one has worked hard and in harmony to help in any way they can. Your club is growing daily with new membership; but we need your help to get our membership to the point of being self supporting. Our expense is great, but we can do it if we work together. Our charter members by name are:
- Bill C. Laws
- Blair Slayton
- Bill Boone
- L. J. Kelley
- Willie Wiles
- Stephen B. Shepherd
- James Oakley
- Woodrow Sloan
- Robert Welch
- James Owen
- Ben Avery
- Jack Sale
- Delbert Ross
- George Pierce
- John Thompson
Our Board of Directors for the next six months is made up of seven of the charter members. They are:
- Ben Avery
- Bill Boone
- Bill Laws
- Jack Sales
- Jim Oakley
- L. J. Kelley
- Woody Sloan
Treasurer: Willie Wiles
These Directors will lay the foundation for the club and take care of club business until April. At that time the membership will choose their officers and operate the club as the membership sees fit.
We started into this venture some sixteen days ago with alcoholics at heart. We have been moving fast.
As you come into the club, please take notice of the bulletin board. We will do our best to keep the membership well informed at all times. Your ideas are welcome. We invite you to stay involved as much as possible.
Saturday morning, October 3rd, there will be a yard sale at your club. Please come! Bring what you can and give us your support.
Saturday night, October 3rd, there will be a get together of all members and friends, finger foods will be served. This has been happening for the past two Saturdays and everyone is having a wonderful time. Please come and bring a prospective member. We encourage you to participate.
As of this date, we have fifty-two dues paying members. We take pride in what has been achieved in the past two weeks.
